JJ, mageritsa is not leftovers, its a meal made out of adera or intestines. As for the tradition and where it comes from, i have no idea? Id say it comes from being poor in the old times and all they could afford were the adera. Who knows. But it would be interesting to find out.
personally i cant stand the stuff either. yuck.

its just the thought of eating insides
oh and the fact that i watch it being made and yes everyone, anes really does do that ith the body parts always tries to freak me out, the heart especially....ba bom, ba boom, i'm just waiting for this thing to explode one dy and go all over her and her mum chase her out the house with a rolling pin

until then i also stick to augolemono soup, mmmmmmm

and the other two tables filled with food
i dnt think much of the younger generation really like the stuff, but i hope the tradition is still kept, and although i wouldn't like it, if it meant keeping the tradition alive i would make it, i just wont get anes to teach me

Magiritsa is only supposed to have small (very small) peices of meat in it. My mum makes it really nice, I love it, you can't really taste the meat so it just tastes like avgolemono. Must have every year...

Guys it depends on how each family makes magiritsa.
My parents only put the liver and lungs and they boil it forever so all the crap can come out before actually putting any other ingredients in it. ITS THE BEST SOUPA I KNOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW....
Anyway, just to be a party pooper LOL, dont u all eat KOKORETSI? well hello what the hell do u think that is made of? fairy floss? no. its intestines wrapped around slices of cow's heart, liver, lungs, brains, u name it from cow or sheep and thats in it. But again the ingredients depend on each family. My dad turns the intestines inside out and washes them a million times.

lol well easter is over...... But this year i actually learnt to make the stuff, every other year i contributed in some way by either cutting insides up, washing the andero, making the bread or fila 4 the pites (like a pure little nikokira)..........
But this year i realised, our parents arent getting any younger and touch wood you dont know what the future holds.
So I thought it was time i learnt the tradition, as its been at my mothers house religiously every year, and seeing as my sister being older you'd think she'd carry the tradition on... but never the less.
This year i learnt how to make it, and even though i dont eat the stuff, im glad i learnt it and can carry on the tradition for years to come followed by zimoto psomi (home made bread) and any pita of your desire. So this year i am proud to say i got something out it. I still dont know why the hell the stuff is cooked or even allowed to be sold in butchers or actually the karpouza (bankstown plaza).
Next year if im still alive and kicking I will be making it myself under the adult supervision of corse from none other my mother, so may the gods be with me on this 1. till then only god knows wats to come.
