Η ερώτηση είναι απλή, και έτσι για περιέργεια για να δούμε το πόσο πατριώτες είμαστε στο βάθος.
Πως νιώθετε
1.Σαν Έλληνας;
2.Σαν Έλληνo - Αυστραλός;
3.Σαν Αυστραλό – Έλληνας;
4.Σαν Αυστραλόι;
Και γιατί.................

How do you view yourselves (how patriotic are you deep down?)
Do you see yourselves as:
1. Greek
2. Greek – Australian
3. Australian – Greek
4. Australian
And why?

the only reason i voted australian greek was because there was no australian cypriot.
why australia first?
because i was simply put, born here. i have lived here my entire life and i know that while my parents cypriot genes flow in my blood i will never be committed to cyprus or its affairs 100%. i am an australian who will continue to embrace the cypriot cultures and traditions and pass on everything i have been taught to my kids etc but my kids will also be raised to accept the beauties of this country first and foremost...

Yeah, Pat beat me to it.. Only my parents are not from Cyprus.

I can speak and write in greek quite fluently. I uphold traditions that my family have bestowed upon me and will continue to do so. But I was born here, grew up here, everything I know and am familiarised with is here in Australia so that is why I see myself as an Aus-Greek

Greek Australian

Just because i feel more towards Greece and my Greek part then i do about Australia and skips in general smile.gif

Skips is a different story - I dont classify myself as a skip..

agreed.

however i did vote Greek australian, because when people ask thats what i say. we are all clearly australians, no doubt about it, whether we like it or not. its just easier when someone says "your not australian, where are you from?" to say "im cypriot/greek(my answer depends on how cultured i think the person is, because many people dont know what cyprus is) australian"

Firstly id like to apologize to all the Cypriot Greeks out there for not specifying them also in the poll (truth is i see us all as Greeks whether it be Cypriot or motherland)..

Secondly thank you for the reasoning and i undertsand it fully,
My answer is a little different yet the same as yours also (if that makes sense).....

I was born and raised for over half my life in Greece but have spent an enormous part of my life here also (education etc) .....So effectively i'm a migrant......i voted Greek as it is how i see myself even though i'm away from what i feel is my country and even though i have assimilated here this still doesn't feel like home to me...........

hear hear!!

stupid little muzztech's should be strapped to a fucking pole butt naked with nothing but belts and made to show how patriotic they are then with all general knowledge questions...

Let's be thankful that those Muzza's call themselves Greek, rather than call themselves Aussies or Greek-Aussies. At least it's their attitude that keeps Hellenism alive in Australia, rather than dieing out.
Also you'd be suprised at what some of those Muzza's know, and even the Muzza's that don't know much still know abit more history of Greece than your average Aussie does about Australia wink.gif

By the way, I voted Greek because although I respect this land, i don't consider my self an ''Ozzie'', but feel Greek.

how can you be thankful for that? they're nothing but an embarassment to every European country. they may call themselves Greek and act like complete and utter dumbasses but at the end of the day the only greek word they know how to say is "malaka".

do you think any of these muzza's are actually proud of their heritage?
they're not.
they're obsessed with the idea of pride but if you ask them what the term actually means NOT ONE OF THEM CAN IDENTIFY THE ACTUAL TERM.

so many Australians raised by Greek, Cypriot or whatever parents are proud of their nationalities but you don't see them acting like fucking tools to be noticed by the opposite (or same) sex. they dont need to drape themselves in flags, they dont wear flared jeans that are 20 times too small making it impossible for them to actually have kids when they're older coz they killed their sperm, they dont need to have half their fucking chest on show, they dont sit and put and on a sick cunny funt accent and more importantly they dont do anything to disgrace their fellow people.
what do side burns and driving a fully sick done up car have to do with being patriotic? NOTHING. right?
right.

moreover, you'd be suprised at the amount they actually do know and you'd be even more suprised that it has nothing to do with your beloved nation.

all in all, i still think you're a tool.

I'm not condoning their ways, I'm not a muzza myself, however it's many of these so called Muzza's that while they may not know a whole lot about Greek history, when they become parents, bring their kids as Greek rather than Aussie, therefore continuing Hellenism.
For example alot of the muzza's I used to see when I was a young kid, the type you hate, have now gotten older and are now parents. And guess what? They are bringing their young kids up as Greeks, and they are very proud of being Greek, and Greek culture.

The real embarassments to Greeks are not them, but the higher class Greek in the community in highish positions.
Now you compare many of those lower class Muzza's, to the higher class Greeks, and many (not all) of those higher class Greeks are some of the biggest poulimeni to their Greek heritage and to their fellow Greek community.
It's many of these same Greeks which have sucked up to the higher class non-Greeks in this country to score points with them, and in the proccess souled out their own fellow Greeks, and even critisized other Greeks for showing any sort of Greek pride (not in a loud way even), because they are poulimeni wanting to suck up to the higher-class non-Greeks to try and look good infront of them. If it was up to these sort of people Greek culture would of already died in Australian, and we'd be worse than the Italians.
It's not that they don't show any Greek pride which is the problem, and call themselves Australian 1st, Greek 2nd. That's their choice. I'm not going to bag them for making that choice. It's their choice.
The problem is that they strongely critisize other Greeks that are more proud of being Greek than Aussie, or any Greeks that show even minor pride in being Greek.

Just One example: These family friends of mine (There Greek) and are slightely higher class, and have high positions, and they were critisiing me. Why? Simply because I was going to support Greece over Australia in the soccer in 2006. They said that if we support Greece, we'll look fanatical like the Syndey Leboz. And that we'll look bad infront of the Aussies.
Another classic example was when Greece was playing Australia and a certain female Greek worker in a high position within the FFA (Football Fed Australia) was coming on our HFC forum, and ranting at us that we'll embarrass the Greek community, and that we are stupid juvinile's for supporting Greece and not Australia, and that we are Australian not Greek, and that we'll embarrass the community for not going for Australia. Obviously just like many other poulimeni Greeks, this one wanted to score points with her higher up's within the FFA and suck up to them.
I've also heard and seen similar attitude from many of these higher class Greeks.

So while you can bag Muzza's all you want and say they know jackcrap about Hellenism, but at least many of them will bring their kids up to be Greeks, and proud to call themselves Greeks..
So it's good to look where the real problem is, and that is many of the sellouts, whom if it was up to them, we'd be calling ourselves Aussies. wink.gif

Also it can depend on which muzza's your talking about.

If your talking about Muzza's 20+ than they're ok, however if your talking about the Greeks under that age, I wouldn't even call them Muzza's, many of them are just gay metro's with their pink tops, gay hairstyle, and Paris Hilton sunglasses.
