i for one prefer greek
not only do i love the sound, but the stixoi, seem to be so much deeper than any other lyrics, particularly the old stuff, and i love that, none of this kalomira "den einai kala ta ellinika mou" bullshit, but real music, plus some of our greek singers have real fonares, a particular favourite of mine are the zembekika but i don't mind the odd tsiftiteli etc
what about you guys?

yeh i agree that Greek is so much better. i love it when you can hear the greek instruments the bouzouki, lyra etc. when i listen to greek music is makes me feel so much more like a greek i guess it makes me realise how rich our language and coulture and everything is from a simple song.

I dunno bout any of you guys, but the klarino sends shivers down my spine. I love the old greek stuff, its the best.
It really depends what mood im in as to wether i want to listen to greek or english. I love a lot of different types of music, funk and heavy metal, dance and r'n'b just depends on my mood.

I agree Greek is much better. However, This Kalomira shit is fckd. The problem is that greeks are attracted to foreign things and they seem unsure as to where their modern music is heading.
Look at turkish and Lebanese modern music, the music actually sounds like it comes from that region. A lot of greek music is pathetic and it sounds like western music.
I downloaded Giannis vasiliou album yesterday. A great album with very good tsiftetelia music. But because he is considered an evening singer, it's not that popular liek the Anna Vissi's. But really the depth and complexity of his music is much more than a vissi song.
I keep downloading these new greek albums and the songs are so wishy washy, the music is wishy washy. It all dates after a few months. Tsiftetelia music has been around for thousands of years, it does not date. Vissi music dates.
Zeimbekika music is great, it follows a 9/8 music pattern which is unusual. This is similar to Marvin Gayes 'Heard it through the grapevine' which is considered by some as the top song of all time.
Middle eastern music starts at a point and ends at that point. The problem is, the bouzouki was designed to not sound like the Turkish instruments, it's designed from the Sazi but tuned differently. But a lot of greeks use it for tsiftetelia songs. That's fine but sometimes they overdo it with the bouzouki. Bouzouki in my view is for Zeimbekika.
Here is a quick quote from an article on
'In Western music, the musical notes are a half step (semitone) apart. For example, on a standard Western piano or harpsichord, each white key and each black key represents one of the 12 possible notes that can be used in Western music, and each is a half step higher than the key immediately adjacent to its left. However, many (but not all) Middle Eastern songs use quarter tones. A quarter tone is a pitch that is halfway between two adjacent keys on a Western piano. So, instead of having 12 possible notes to use as the basis of building a scale, Oriental music has twice as many possible notes to choose from.'
What I am trying to say is that we just dont know what to expect with a lot of these new Greek singers. Sometimes their albums the music sounds so western it's very dissapointing. We might think a lot of the songs sound exotic etc, but really the music is no different to western music there is not much to distinguish it.

we can't stand kalomira cos al we see is another britney spears clone, but to the greeks its something new, my dad says ppl like kalomira because of her innocence, meanwhile im thinking innocence my arse shes got greece wrapped around her finger, but my dad doens't know who britney spears is, so thats why he doesn't get it, same with the greeks in greece, its something new and they take a liking to it, im hoping people will get over it soon, doesn't look that way though

the only listenable greek songs are zembekika... and for that reason i'm ADAMANTLY saying english music, as there are hundreds of different styles and genres to choose from... whereas with greek, there are only zembekika for me to listen to.
nothing else is listenable, sorry. You all know I'm right.

whatever.
you totally know you shake your ass in the mirror every night dancing along to s'bira sovara... and songs of the like.
i prefer greek... but old school grk... none of this bullshit that has come out recently. greek singers have turned themselves into plastic and that's what their songs are like. rubbish in the end. still adamantly in love with ploutarho though. that guy is a god. every other guy should look at him and be amazed and curse their mothers for making them ugly compared to him. ahhh shutup you know it's true.
the other thing about greek music is the emotion you can hear and witness in clips. that stuff you can't really see in english music. not that the lyrics to some english songs aren't every emotive.
i prefer meaning to "shake that laffy taffy"... even though i do have that on my ipod

Also i do not like pop music.
Those words are very silly and unkind for me which starts with POP-music,POP-ularity,POP-ulism!!
