Well they have put this movie on the front page of youtube, it's had like 600 thousand hits in a day or so. As the movie is out already in some places, people are now posting reviews. Some people have said that it is the best movie they have ever seen, so that is an encouraging sign. Sure some people hated it but here are some of the recent comments about the movie, they look promising. Oh and fuck what movie critics think, they always get it wrong!!

I just got home from watching the movie and I LOVED IT. I know some parts weren't correct according to the history books but its a movie so you can't expect it to be completly correct. I really liked it and I'm going to buy the dvd when it comes out.

Pretty much all the positive comments are probably from Yanks who've never heard the story of the 300 before and the whole concept of standing your ground when faced with an impossible task is unheard of to them. So naturally they think this movie is great. Greek's expectations will be a lot higher because we know the story, and we know that the true story is better and more uplifting than the movie...

Oh well....hollywood always bastardises our history....and that's why people like the skops exist today, people don't know what the fk's going on.

300 Assaults March Record!
Box Office March 11, 2007

Article
300Though 300 Spartans played the defensive against an invading Persian force, 300 had its own assault on the weekend box office - an assault that has landed the R-rated film the title of "Best March Opening Ever".

Weekend Box Office: 300
How much must one earn to take a box office record for March? Disney's Ice Age: The Meltdown previously held the title with $68 million. Early tracking numbers are predicting that 300 will finish out its opening weekend with just over $70 million.

A whopping $70 million will not only give 300 the biggest March opening to date, but the film was also the third biggest R-rated opening ever - right behind The Matrix Reloaded and The Passion of the Christ. Nobody likes being placed at third -- especially not a Spartan -- so it is nice to know that 300 is also the biggest R-rated pic to open in March.

How did 300 perform so well? Besides being the first real summer tentpole that features more action than any fanboy could ever ask for, it turns out that the film pulled in quite the female audience as well. Having Gerard Butler star was an easy guarantee to attract the thousands of Butlerites across the globe, but Reuters claims that wasn't it. It turns out that women also dug the film thanks to its heavy use of male nudity and a strong female lead played by Lena Headey.

300 Spartans sack movie theatres
POSTED: 2005 GMT (0405 HKT), March 11, 2007
Story Highlights• "300" features real actors and a digital background
• Movie is violent, but not offensive, according to distributor
• Immigrant drama "The Namesake" opened strongly
• "Wild Hogs" slipped to second place, but still strong
Adjust font size:
LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- The ancient battle of Thermopylae was the stuff of 2007's first certified blockbuster as the bloody action tale "300" debuted with $70 million over opening weekend, according to studio estimates Sunday.

That's about $233,000 for every one of the legendary 300 Spartan soldiers who fought off a much larger Persian force in the epic battle.

"On a Spartan-by-Spartan basis, that's a lot of money," said Paul Dergarabedian, president of box-office tracker Media By Numbers. "Summer came a little early, because this is a summer-style opening."

The number of movie-goers for the Warner Bros. epic "300" outnumbered crowds for the rest of the top-10 movies combined. If the estimate holds when final numbers are released Monday, "300" would break the record for best March debut ever, topping the $68 million haul for "Ice Age: The Meltdown" last year. (Watch the making of the half-digital "300.")

"300" played in 3,103 theaters, about 850 fewer than the "Ice Age" sequel, making its box-office performance even more notable. The movie averaged $22,567 a theater, a whopping number for a wide release.

The total for "300" includes $3.4 million from 62 IMAX theaters, a record opening weekend for the large-screen format.

Buoyed by "300" and some solid holdovers, Hollywood business soared, with the top-12 movies taking in $139.4 million, up 49 percent from the same weekend last year.

"300" bumped off the previous weekend's No. 1 movie, Disney's "Wild Hogs," which slipped to second place but held up well with $28 million, raising its total to $77.4 million.

In limited release, Fox Searchlight's immigrant drama "The Namesake" opened strongly with 250,762 in six theaters, averaging $41,794. Centered on an Indian family's assimilation in America, "The Namesake" expands to more theaters Friday.

Going into the weekend, movie attendance had been lagging 1 percent behind last year's because of a slump in January and February. Attendance now is up nearly 2 percent for the year because of the strong weekend, according to Media By Numbers.

Adapted from Frank Miller's graphic novel, "300" stars Gerard Butler as Leonidas, king of the Land where time forgot state of Sparta, who leads his vastly outnumbered men against the Persian invaders.

Directed by Zack Snyder ("Dawn of the Dead"), "300" presents the actors against digitally created backgrounds to re-create the look of Miller's graphic novel, a technique similar to that used on the movie adaptation of Miller's "Sin City."

"It's a new-fashioned version of an epic movie. Great, old-fashioned storytelling with all the brilliant use of the technology available to us now," "300" producer Mark Canton said Sunday.

Heavy on violence, the movie had an R rating, normally a damper on a film's blockbuster potential. But "300" wound up with the third-best debut ever for an R-rated movie, behind "The Matrix Reloaded" at $91.8 million and "The Passion of the Christ" at $83.8 million.

"The violence doesn't bother anybody because it's done in a way that's not offensive," said Dan Fellman, Warner Bros. head of distribution. "People love the movie, they love the originality. The best thing you can have for a film is great word of mouth. When the public is selling the movie for you, that's when you have a real success."

This movie probably has no historical truth to it, so don't go in expecting history to be told accurately. If you've read the comic then you'd know what to expect.

Hehehe well i for one don’t want this movie spoilt so I wont be having any sneak peaks. Never expect truth from a Hollywood film, it just looks like it would be a good movie visually.
On the news last night they were carrying on about how the aussies were behind the effects, and that is was about an ancient battle. Not a Spartan battle and triumph.

I liked this movie a lot, but I know that there will be people who spend like garbage, which is understandable. Just make sure your opinion about what you see when you go to the theater, instead of being oneself been influenced by tons of comments on this site has to offer.
