Panathinaikos thrashed Barcelona 102-82!
Three days after the big home loss from Olympiakos, Panathinaikos found the strenght and the guts to thrash the Catalonian club of Barcelona with 20 points difference. In a game which had nothing to do with the game for the Greek league, Obradovic's troops succeeded in fifteen three pointer, and with good defense from the three "dimensional" Dimitris Diamantidis never faced any problem from the Spaniard side. Among 13,000 Green fans, Panathinaikos made the +47 in his two games (27 points difference with EFES and 20 points with Barcelona) and is now leading the Group F with record 2-0.Jaka Lakovic in his return to Athens was amazingly out of his self and with only 9 minutes in the court and 0/1 three pointers he ended his return with 0 points and 1 assist giving the pleasure to the Green fans. The quarters were: 32-15, 51-31, 74-58 and the final 102-82. MVP of the Game was Dimitris Diamantidis.

Group F's game between the unbeaten (in this stage) Panathinaikos will take place in Sopot, Poland, where Prokom Trefl welcomes Panathinaikos on Wednesday night, in the first-ever game between both teams. Prokom (1-1) got the first ever tase of victory last week (over the Turks of Efes) after seven consecutive losses at this stage (Top 16) since its first appearance in 2005. Meanwhile, Panathinaikos registered back-to-back two massive home wins against Efes Pilsen and Winterthur FCB. The Greens will play three of their remaining four games on the road; this could be an advantage as well as a disadvantage. Prokom released Justin Hamilton earlier this week, so Rashid Atkins (7.3 ppg., 44.8% 3FG, 2.6 apg.) and Tomas Pacesas are set to share the point guard duties from now on. Prokom will have have plenty of help in the backcourt with Donatas Slanina (10.3 ppg.), Christian Dalmau (11.3 ppg., 41% 3FG) or Jasmin Hukic (6.2 ppg., 3.3 rpg.). Panathinaikos count on a deep roster that does not seem to have limits. Dimitris Diamantidis (9.3 ppg., 45.2% 3FG, 4.1 apg., 2.7 spg.) will have the mission to slow Atkins while Tony Delk (10.3 ppg.), Ramunas Siskauskas (9.1 ppg., 46.5% 3FG), Sani Becirovic (9.7 ppg.) or Nikos Hatzivrettas (8.7 ppg., 41.2% 3FG) will test their scoring skills against a whole battery of Prokom shooters

Another impressive performance by the champions at Teo's hometown and CSKA Moscow remained undefeated in Top 16, getting therefore closer to its primary goal of getting the first place at the group E of Euroleague. After getting a double-digit difference even from the first period the Russians thrashed Olympiacos (64-85) in Pireaus yesterday. CSKA improved to 3-0 while Olympiacos dropped to 1-2.

The unbeaten team of Panathinaikos is facing a new challenge, the team of coach Mahmuti, Efes. The Turkish team dismiss earlier this week one of their basic guards, the American Jenkins due to misbehavior (some behind the door rumors say something else) never the less for the Turks this could be their last chance to get back to the game of qualification, they definitely need the victory to survive. The top figures, Marcus Haislip 14ppg, 6.3rpg, 0.4apg and Nicholas Andrew 14.3ppg, 3rpg, 3.4apg will be the players to cover up Jenkins emptiness while the newcomer Antonio Granger 5.3ppg, 2rpg will try to prove that his registration was successful by giving to the Turkish team the points needed versus Panathinaikos. Another key figure for the Turks will be the 23 years old Albanian-Turk Ermal Kuqo 9.3ppg, 3.5rpg, 1.2 apg if he can play within the baskets against his rivals Dejan Tomasevic (208-F/C-73) (who is in a great shape lately) 7.5ppg, 5rpg, 1.1apg and against Tsartsaris 8.3ppg, 5.1rpg, 1.6apg, then things will be easier for the Turks. On the other hand, Coach Obradovic with all his players ready (Javtokas may loose the game), Diamantidis (the best European defender) 9ppg, 4rpg, 4apg, is not at his best lately and he needs a good game to practically delete his previous game. Mike Batiste 14.2ppg, 7rpg seems to found his old self and is ready to make his comeback in Turkey. Eurobasket believes that it's going to be a great game and the details will actually give the victory.
Teams Current Records:
PAO 3-0, EFES 0-3
Soon to be 4-0

.Barcelona loose in Turkey last night! Efes Pilsen got its first Top 16 victory by beating Barcelona 82-78 in Istanbul. Efes, though had not any particular mission in the game since it was already eliminated from the Quarterfinal Playoffs race, so their game was without any real stress, they played free basketball for the sport and for their fans. Efes now has improved to 1-4 and Barcelona dropped to 3-2, the Catalonians already qualified for the playoffs and will finish in second place 99%, unless Panathinaikos looses tonight by Prokom with more than 10 and travels in Barcelona next week and looses too with +22, then and only then Barca has some chances to terminate in the first position.
Pao comes 1st in the Group now, meaning in the 1/4's, we get 2 home games.
If we make the Final 4, the final series is in Athens. Bring it on.

With the chance to keep its Final Four dream alive, Olympiacos hosts DKV Joventut on Thursday night at the Peace and Friendship Stadium in Piraeus, Greece with either team capable of finishing second in Group E and walking off with a spot in the Quarterfinal Playoffs. Only Olympiacos (2-3) is in control of its own destiny, however. By winning on Thursday, the Reds will clinch second place and advance to the best-of-three quarterfinals with Tau Ceramica. Joventut (1-4) has it a lot more difficult: to advance, the Spanish team must whip Olympiacos by at least 35 points and hope CSKA defeates Partizan in Belgrade. In that case, Olympiacos, Joventut and Partizan would all finished tied 2-4 records, but Joventut would advance on the tiebreaker. If Joventut beats Olympiacos by 34 points or fewer, Partizan will advance, win or lose against CSKA. In their first Top 16 meeting, Joventut edged Olympiacos 58-56 last month in Spain as Rudy Fernandez scored 15 points. Teen sensation Ricky Rubio led the defensive charge that night with 7 steals that contributed to 27 Olympiacos turnovers, but he won't make the trip this week. Instead, Joventut welcomes back Lubos Barton, a key performer who was missing several games due to injury. This time, point guard Scoonie Penn (12.8 ppg., 3.2 apg.) and Olympiacos will look to protect the ball while picking up their scoring pace at home. Penn will go head-to-head with Elmer Bennett (8.2 ppg., 2.8 apg.) and Marcelinho Huertas in the game's key matchup as both teams will look to control the tempo. Joventut's depth will also be key, as the visitors need to storm Olympiacos from the opening tip to have any shot at the needed point-difference. On the offensive end, Fernandez (16.2 ppg.) will need to be at his best, but will get plenty help now from Barton, while Charles Gaines (10.1 ppg., 6.2 rpg.) and Joventut centers Robert Archibald (9.3 ppg.) and Andy Betts must handle the Olympiacos frontcourt corps of Andrija Zizic (12.4 ppg., 5.1 rpg.), Ioannis Burousis (8.8 ppg., 5.3 rpg.), Sofoklis Schortsianitis (7.5 ppg.) and Sam Hoskin. Forward Alex Acker (14.6 ppg., 5.8 rpg.) and swingman Panagiotis Vasilopoulos round out the Olypiacos starting five, and their ability to make things happen on the perimeter will also be key. Acker's rebounding from the wing will be key again for his team's hopes of success, as will the effectiveness of Schortsianitis inside. The fact that Joventut must win bu so many points could work in the Reds' favor, since anything short of a massive lead by halftime could demoralize the visitors and allow Olympiacos to control the second half. But the pressure will still be on Olympiacos to the end, because anything short of victory and passage to the playoffs will be deemed a massive failure in Piraeus.
