well if you people don't know how to dance to greek music here i am your teacher for today here to teach you the basic steps easy as 1 , 2 , 3. i've done greek dancing for 4 years even though it didn't help me as much it taught me alot. im sure alot of people have seen me dancing in here must be a funny sight lol.

Syrtaki - Zorbas Dance

Step Tempo Basic Step. Begin on left foot
1 quick Step forward on the left foot.
2 quick Tap ball of right foot next to left heal.
3 quick Swing right leg forward and kick it slightly forward.
4 quick Repeat Step 3.
5 quick Step behind left foot on the right foot.
6 quick Kick left foot slightly forward.
7 quick Repeat Step 5 using opposite footwork.
8 quick Repeat Step 6 kicking with right foot.
9 quick Step obliquely back to the Right on the right foot.
10 quick Step to the Right on the left foot in-front of the right.
11 quick Shift weight back onto the right foot.
12 quick Swing left foot backwards brushing ball of left foot next to right as you swing past.
13 quick Swing left foot forward brushing ball of left foot next to right as you swing past.
14 quick Swing left foot backwards brushing ball of left foot next to right on the Right side as you swing past, thus crossing the right foot with the left.

Repeat as often as desired.
NO.1 WOG

Step Tempo Introduction. Begin on right foot.
1 slow Step to the Right on the right foot.
2 slow Step to the Right on the left foot next to right.

Repeat to left

3 slow Step to the Left on the left foot.
4 slow Step to the Left on the right foot next to left.
Repeat to Right.

5 slow Step to the Right on the right foot.
6 slow Step to the Right on the left foot next to right.

Done only once, at beginning of dance.

Step Tempo Basic Step
1 slow Slide Left foot forward.
2 slow Brush right foot forward on ground next to left and follow through with forward motion.
3 slow Swing right foot in a small arc backward and step behind left foot.
4 slow Step left foot backwards behind right quickly shifting weight off right and holding it slightly
off the ground in-front of right foot
5 slow Step diagonally back to the Right on the right foot
6 slow Cross left foot in-front of right shifting weight to left foot.
7 slow Step right foot back into former position (Step 5), shifti9ng weight back onto right
8 quick Rock forward onto left foot
9 quick Rock back onto right foot

Repeat as often as desired.

Step Tempo Cross Steps.
slow Predatory step. Step forward on the left foot and swing right foot around in an arc and
2 to the Left
1 quick Step to the Left on the right foot in-front of left.
2 quick Step to the Left on the left foot
3 slow Step to the Left on the right foot in-front of left and swing left foot around in an arc and 2 to the Right
4 quick Step to the Right on the left foot in-front of right.
5 quick Step to the Right on the right foot.
6 slow Step to the Right on the left foot in-front of right and swing right foot around in an arc and 1 to the Left and 1 to the Right

7 slow Step to the Left on the right foot in-front of left and swing left foot around in an arc and 8 slow Step to the Right on the left foot in-front of right.

This is equivalent to Step 1 of the Basic Step, followed by brush right foot forward, etc.
Repeat occasionally during dance.

Zeimbekiko

Starting Position: Feet together facing front, knees slightly bent.
Step Tempo Forward and back to the Right.
1 quick Step obliquely forward to the right on the right foot.
2 slow Slide the left foot up to and along side so thet the ball of left foot is next to arch of right, keeping weight mostly on right foot.
3 quick Slide the left foot forward in-front of right.
4 slow Step slightly backwards on right foot, keeping it inline behind left foot.
5 slow Step slightly backwards on left foot, keeping it inline behind right foot.

Repeat above steps 1 through 5 adding a sixth step at the end of the sequence, thus transferring weight to the right foot in-order to execute the figure to the left.

6 slow Step backwards on right foot next to left foot (starting position).
Forward and back to the Left
Repeat all 11 Steps (5+6) to the Left using opposite footwork. Begin on left foot
Repeet all 22 steps as often as desired.

Tsifteteli

Starting position for all figures. Feet together facing front, hands outstretched to sides at shoulder level.'

Step Tempo Pas de Basque (without leaping).
1 quick Step to the Right on the right foot.
2 quick Step to the Right on the left foot in-front of right.
3 slow Shift weight back onto right foot.

Repeat above steps to the Left with opposite footwork. Begin on left foot.
Repeat as often as desired.

Step Tempo Half Step.
1 slow Step forward on the right foot.
2 slow Touch ball of left foot forward keeping weight mostly on right.

Repeat above steps forward with opposite footwork.

The second step the "touch" step is often accompanied by a quick jerk of the hips forward.
Repeat as often as desired.

Step Tempo Two Step.
1 quick Step forward on the right foot.
2 quick Step forward on the left foot next to right.
3 slow Step forward on the right foot.

Repeat above steps forward with opposite footwork.
Repeat as often as desired.

Step Tempo Back Cross Step.
1 slow Step to the Right on the right foot.
2 slow Step to the Right on the left foot behind right.

Repeat above steps several times. This step is often done around a partner, if there is one, in a counter clockwise direction, it is often accompanied by a shivering motion of the shoulders.
A simple series of walking steps may be performed forward or backward, usually accompanied by a shivering motion of the hips.

Kalamatiano

Starting position. Feet together facing obliquely Right.
Step Tempo Traveling step to the Right. Begin on right foot.
1 slow Step to the Right on the right foot.
2 quick Step to the Right on the left foot slightly behind right.
3 quick Step to the Right on the right foot alongside left.
Continue Traveling Step to Right. Begin on left foot.
4 slow Step to the Right on the left foot in-front of right
5 quick Step to the Right on the right foot alongside left.
6 quick Step to the Right on the left foot in-front of right.
Pausing Step in Place. Begin on right foot.
7 slow Step to the Right on the right foot.
8 quick Step in-front of right foot on the left foot.
9 quick Shift weight from left foot back onto right foot which steps back into place.
Continue Pausing Step in Place. Begin on left foot.
10 slow Step diagonally backwards to the left on the left foot.
11 quick Step diagonally backwards on the right foot behind left/
12 quick Shift weight from right foot bach onto left foot which steps forward into former place.
Repeat entire sequence of 12 Steps untill the dance ends.

Starting position. Feet together facing obliquely Right.
Step Tempo One Step or Traveling Step to the Right.
1 slow Step to the Right on the right foot.
2 quick Step to the Right on the left foot in-front of right.
3 slow Step to the Right on the right foot.
4 quick Step to the Right on the left foot in-front of right.
Continue Traveling Step to the Right Combined with Pausing Step. Begin on right foot.
5 slow Step to the Right on the right foot.
6 quick Step to the Right on the left foot in-front of right.
7 slow Step to the Right on the right foot.
8 quick Swing the left leg out in-front of right leg with the left knee bent and foot about one foot off ground.
Continue Pausing Step Combined with Traveling Step to the Left. Begin on left foot.
9 slow Step diagonally backwards Left on the left foot to its previous position.
10 quick Step to the Left on the right foot in-front of left.
11 slow Step to the Left on the left foot.
12 quick Swing the right leg out in-front of left leg with the right knee bent and foot about one foot off ground.
Repeat the sequence of 12 steps until the dance ends.

meh dancing comes naturally with me...

i went to cypriot dancing for a while (even though i'm not cyp) but meh it did shit all for me...

i left and i learnt myself when i went out with others... now i'm a proooooooo so who wants to dance the kotsari or pentozali with me? tongue.gif

glykz... indeed observing does wonders... you should see my mates from school dance one heavy zeimbekia... you'd go crazy wink.gif they have this technique it's hard to explain, when you see them dance you will know what i mean B)

Ive been doing dancing for 11 years and i still do it....

something that shits me..

when ppl are dancing kotsari...their feet are goin everywhere....

in kotsari the feet have to be close together and you dont lift them to high...

its more fun ..u learn different figoures.

im pendozalli and kotsari champ, i did those two dances at my grk school concerts for two years in a row and i was leader in both. i love pontian dances cos there fast and energetic, im not really a fan of slow ones.

Dancing is an art. Therefore, it is no one can do it as they want. Dance is a form of exercise that you can enjoy. But if you want to learn to dance; you must take first the step by step directions. When active in dancing, there are diverse benefits to the body both mentally and physically. Dancing can be a great help to our circulatory system which makes the heart pumps blood faster. Actually, it significantly maintains the body to make it become slimmer and which keeps you healthy and energetic too.
