Mundine vows to reclaim world title
Thursday May 18 07:49 AESTAnthony Mundine has vowed he's ready to reclaim the world title after his emphatic points decision over Danny Green on Wednesday night.
Mundine claimed a unanimous decision in the most anticipated fight in Australia in decades when he was too slick and composed for Green, to earn a shot at WBA super-middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler.
Kessler beat Mundine in their world title fight in June last year but Mundine claimed he was a much better fighter now.
"It was a close fight last time, he's a great fighter," Mundine said.
"I think he's the best out there at the moment, but I showed last time I can match it with him.
"I've improved a lot since then."
Although the world title eliminator entitles Mundine to a bout with Kessler, the Dane is yet to confirm he will take on the fight's winner.
After a buildup of six years for a rare fight between two internationally ranked Australian boxers, Mundine put an end to the hype with a mature performance.
He took plenty of punishment, but maintained his composure against the power-punching Green and got on top in the latter half of the 12-round bout.
"I just want to thank Danny for a great fight," Mundine said.
"He put up a good performance, he came ready, he came prepared.
"I was the better man tonight Dan, thank you very much."
After years of antagonism and spite between the pair, Green was gracious in defeat.
"Anthony Mundine, a lot has been said in the past, he just fought a better fight tonight, he just beat me fair and square," Green said.
