Reports in England suggest that Sunderland is looking to land Ajax striker Angelos Charisteas in the January transfer window.

The Greek international is being lined up by manager Mick McCarthy, who is desperate to find a solution to the lack of goals at The Stadium of Light this term.

The move will be an initial 6-month loan, with the option of becoming permanent at the end of the season.

SUNDERLAND IS CRAP!!!!!
Minimalistix
i think a s 6month loan would be good, as long as its not permanent, 6 months would be good for him, and it can bring interest for other clubs to buy him if he scores goals.
niko
he suits the premier league, he'd be great there. Think of your typical premier league striker. Tall, strong, cant use his feet, good with his head, doesnt make proper runs. He'd be perfect. If only he had stayed at Aris
HiNrg
Yeah but Sunderland are going to get relegated.
niko
Better then being outshined by Anastasiou at Ajax

oh yes just like Drogba, Henry, Ruud Van Nistelrooy, Cisse, McBride and the list is never ending rolleyes.gif rolleyes.gif rolleyes.gif rolleyes.gif

It seems to me that you've named 5 strikers when their are 20 teams in the premier league with at least 3-4 strikers. Even out of the ones you have named, i'd only say Cisse, Henry and Drogba are great strikers, McBride and Van Nistelrooy, are you kidding. I once saw rVn try to pass the ball and it was like a cross field sout, the guy couldnt pull a sentra i his life depended on it. The guy has one aspect to his game, finishing. He is a limited player.

Look at the phrasing of my comment "look at your TYPICAL EPL striker", I didnt say that all of them were shit. Just most of them
HiNrg
i think the Dutch game suits Haristeas better...

Are you fkn shitting me, Viduka is world class?? Wright Phillips isnt even a damn striker, he's a winger. Hasselbaink was good hmmm.... 4 years ago, the guys 33 for fucks sake. VIDUKA WORLD CLASS, oh my god, let me tell you something ok. Your world class forwards have been throwing their weight around with their world class goal tallies.

Defoe who has rung up a huge tally of 3 goals in 14 games, last scored 8 games ago. Not only that but he has also grabbed a massive 3 assists, his last one coming ONLY 6 games ago.

Hasselbaink (the world class forward who doesnt even necessarily start for Middlesborough) has been in a rich vein of scoring lately after he has scored two goals in the last 4 games, even making 1 assist in this time. Too bad in the whole season before these 4 games (a total of 10 games) he didnt score or make an assist and he was dropped for 3-4 games. He recently showed his class when he was given a 12 minute appearance for Middlesborough.

Viduka, (Hasselbainks world class striking partner) has also reached good form lately, scoring in his last game. Prior to this he also showed great form scoring 0 goals in the previous 10 games and making 0 assists for the whole season... world class

Owen is world class, wohoo, you got one right, the kids amazing, ill give you that one. It looks like one of the "big names" you plucked out of your extensive football knowledge happened to be a great player instead of just a name that uninformed football fans use when they talk about great players.

Shaun Wright Phillips, who will be world class one day I believe, is a winger, not a striker. Im glad you can see similarities between two ridiculously different positions on the park... Come to think of it, i always saw Basinas as a world class goalkeeper...

Rooney has been showing good form for ages now, he is in good form for Manchester and is playing well. He is a good player, a great player, but world class? No. You think of a world class lineup. a lineup with players like Buffon, Zambrotta, Nesta, Terry, Lampard, Ronaldinho, Shevchenko, Adriano... Rooney just doesnt fit in. These players are a step above him in all aspects of the game, they have the extra shine and extra class. He is a fantastic player but world class, no.

WORLD CLASS STRIKERS and players like Henry (8 goals even though he's been injured), rVn (although I hate his game, he can put the ball away in a world class manner; 10 goals), Lampard (top scorer of the EPL even though he is a mid; 11 goals), Luca Toni (16 goals in 13 games in the best league in the world), Trezuguet (10 goals in seria A), Gilardino (8 goals), Eto'o (12 goals in la liga), Ronaldinho (9 goals in la liga) ARE PUTTING AWAY AT LEAST A GOAL EVERY 1.5 GAMES IF NOT MORE.

Dont try to make it seem as if you know anything just by pulling names out of the air, just because someone was good at one point (Hasselbaink) or has a ridiculous amount of hype around them (Rooney) doesnt mean that they are world class or even necessarily that good.

oh really, SWP isnt a striker? his 1 of 5 strikers for england last time i checked he was a striker for England rolleyes.gif the very fact u think strikers in the EPL arent good runners and dribblers, and the comments u mentioned on the other players, i wont even bother on how pathetic ur making urself sound.

Are you serious, that just proves how much you know, seriously. Have you ever watched a Manchester City/England/Chelsea match. Wright Phillips IS NOT A STRIKER. Heres a bit of proof for you ok

Article 1
QUOTE FROM SECOND PARAGRAPH: the Chelsea manager is likely to face stern resistance from Manchester City for their midfield player
QUOTE FROM THIRD PARAGRAPH: Mourinho has become a keen admirer of Wright- Phillips since moving to England and is understood to want a natural right-sided winger in his squad to complement the attacking talents of Damien Duff and Arjen Robben

Article 2
QUOTE FROM 16TH PARAGRAPH: Sean Wright Phillips replaced a minute later Ameobi and the team immediately looked to pose more of a threat with the speed of the diminutive Manchester City winger on the right.

England FA Homepage
Look under midfielders and you'll see Wright Phillips. Click on his picture and go into his profile
SHAUN WRIGHT-PHILLIPS
Position Midfielder

Maybe you should admit that your wrong?

Anyway, England strikers can run... Yeah, they can RUNNNN onto a long ball from midfield, England hasnt yet heard of the through ball, they dont know how to make intelligent runs. They are great athletically, shit technically. They play the ugliest long ball soccer in the world. Yuk, Greek soccer is more pretty to watch then ugly long ball soccer. They cant dribble either, which English striker can dribble?? Rooney has limited ability, Owen cant run at a defence and beat his man, Crouch just suffers from altitude sickness when he tries to dribble, Defoe... Defoe's OK. I'd rate Mantzios over any of them in terms of dribbling capability and thats a big fucken call that im happy to make because that kid can run at a defence, beat his man and bring the game to a defence.

As for me making myself "sound pathetic", you havent given me any counter argument yet, you cant just say im pathetic, are we discussing football here or what?

OHHH MY GODDD, seriously, it doesnt matter what ESPN says, and even if it did and you read his god damn profile on ESPN, you'd see this

http://soccernet.espn.go.com/players/profile?id=5030&cc=3436

Able to play on either flank or in support of the striker, Wright-Phillips is a versatile midfielder who will attack all day.

Like I said, it doesnt matter what ESPN says, answer me this, have you ever SEEN SHAUN WRIGHT PHILLIPS PLAY A GAME OF FOOTBALL. If you have, you'll see what position he plays. He is a midfielder, he is a winger. Watch a game of football will you please
Minimalistix
yes i use to watch him often for Man City, Saw him play BOTH positions
niko
Ohhh my godddd, he never played as a striker, he never has. He plays as a winger. The ONLY TIME he doesnt play as a winger, he plays attacking mid in support of the striker, similair to Eki Gonzalez. He has never played as a striker
IMONFIRE
all i can say is,sunderland is looking at first division and nothing else, they have a shit team, shit players, shit coach, buying 1 player will not make a difference!
