you ask for too much.

stop thinking about yourself.

its only for 2 weeks so make the most out of it.

Enjoy it while it lasts

this is melbournes biggest sporting event since the 1956 Olympics. Show melbourne a bit more respect than that

im sure you will live...

Bah and humbug I say! Having to PT it to work sucks...and the tourists are not only noxious but obnoxious...they should've held the Games a little earlier to allow for things like the Antipodes festival. Instead of putting it off one could've followed the other to continue the festival atmosphere within the city.

Wishful thinking on my part I know...

lol Antipodes fest. Admit it proculus, you just want a bigger audience to see you doin your thang in that tsolia of yours. tongue.gif

As far as this being melbourne's biggest sporting event since the '56 olympics, yeah you may be right but there isn't really a buzz about it. There's more of a buzz year-in year-out with the Aus Open tennis and the F1 Grand Prix.

See what happens when Australia's favourite metrosexual Thorpy isn't around? A nation loses interest.

Did anyone watch the opening ceremony last night? Comments please.

I've taped it because I was out last night.

The Opening Ceremony of the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games was indeed spectacular! I loved it! I love the walking on the water part. Delta Goodrem was oh so HOT as she sang 'together we are one' within the fireworks. She sang with passion. She has such a beautiful voice.

Over 80,000 people attended the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) plus an additional 1 billion people around the world saw it on television (source sunrise television program)

Melbourne looks very nice at night with the buildings and how the fireworks extravaganza lighted up the entire city!

The boats on the Yarra river i also liked and the fireskaters.

I liked it how Jane Saville was the flag bearer, she seems happy as well.

Those were my favourite highlighting moments.

The night was simply magic and spectacular.

No offense Louky, I like your passions for stuff, but I can't get into these commonwealth games. the only thing i am looking forward to is seeing Pittman lose and chuck a tantrum again.

The media was praising the opening ceremony. In my view it was boring. Arty Farty peice of shit it was

We want to stay: missing athletes
Friday Mar 24 11:00 AEDT
By ninemsn staff writers and wires

A group of athletes from Sierra Leone who left the Commonwealth Games village have expressed a wish to remain in Australia.

Sierra Leone's team attache Robert Green confirmed that some of the latest athletes to go missing had told their coach they wanted to stay in Australia.

"Their coach phoned them and said: 'Hey guys, what's going on?' and they said: 'Look, we don't want to come back. We're going to try and stay in this country'," he said.

The group's decision to leave the Games village disappointed team mates said Mr Green.

"The other team members are very disappointed...we had three athletes, of course, who didn't start, we've had to scratch the women's relay teams," Green told ABC radio.

Police had been looking for 11 foreign athletes missing from the Games village since Wednesday afternoon.

This takes the number of competitors missing from Sierra Leone's games team to nine — almost half its squad of 22 competitors.

Earlier this week, three female and four male athletes from the west African nation, which has been torn apart by decades of civil war, were reported missing.

Team officials realised the athletes were missing when they had not returned to their rooms by 10am (AEDT) Tuesday.

It comes as Victoria Police continue to search for Tanzanian boxer Omari Idd Kimweri and Bangladeshi 400m runner Mohammad Tawhidul Islam, who both disappeared from the village on Monday.

Police said the missing Sierra Leone athletes include a weightlifter and six members of the athletics team - three of whom were scheduled to run in a four-person relay race on Wednesday but failed to compete.

Mr Green would not speculate on whether the athletes would seek to stay in Australia.

Seventy percent of the Sierra Leone team went missing during the Manchester Commonwealth Games team four years ago.

Mr Green said he was "unaware" whether special conditions had been placed on members of the team to ensure their return to Sierra Leone, or whether they would be disciplined if they returned to the village.

lollllllllllll i love how they make it sound like a death-toll from some kind of disaster: "Police had been looking for 11 foreign athletes missing from the Games village since Wednesday afternoon.

This takes the number of competitors missing from Sierra Leone's games team to nine — almost half its squad of 22 competitors. "
