But Kate DeAraugo overcame the odds to become this year's Australian Idol at the Sydney Opera House last night.

Despite this series of Idol failing to attract the TV audience of previous series, thousands of fans screamed for their favourite at the Opera House last night.

DeAraugo was a clear favourite among the younger fans with 11-year-old Lianna Ayoub saying: "She's a great singer and a good sport."


Well Well Well from Guy Sebastian and the pisshead Noel to the Kourella maimou Donovan (who im very surprised she didnt fall through the timber stage from her paxos) to the smurf Callea who I believe has boring music "the prayer" pppfffttt to today Emily vs Kate. Another ballad release. Emily had it in the bag until she choked like a typical Panathinaikos team of 04/05 trying to change her music style which does not suit her voice. It was one of those nights where Emily was the favourite all the way but Kate wins. And says who if you read the article above the Daily Telegraph take a quote by an 11 year old. The funny thing was you switched on channel 10 Sunday night and you saw the profesional Kylie in concert and then you watch Monday night and you see the ametuers of Idol

Seems like the 2000 version of young Talent Time. Do you think i have played any idol songs in clubs NNNNOOOOOO and will i NNNOOOOOO. If we really want great talent let them come up the ranks as professionals do. Then you have the judges Kyle radio DJ who talks crap and may be opinionated and obviously caters to the 11 year old market if he knows what they want. Marcia and Mr Holden top performers in their day but find new catch phrases Pehlease Marcia girlfriend boyfriend then we have Holden Touchdown and the other crap he says worked for one series but as the ratings showed this is the worst ratings for idol in all the series

Its obvious the public are having their say and what a surprise we will see the ballad go to number 1 which is a joke in itself. It seems like they are catering to the aussie market playing rock balads and RNB what about House music releasing a house track. If Bodyrockers can bring a Neighbours chic to sing it and make it successfull why cant Idol?? Forgot its catered to 11 year olds who scream at the first thing they see

But for what it takes congratulations Kate for the performance and the crap you copped from the idiots called judges well done!!! Hopefully you will be more sucessful than the kouratha.

I thought Kate looks absolutely BEAUTIFUL last night with her choice of clothing.

The song is just soooooo nice and it really suits her, you couldnt see Lee pulling off that song - he would turn it round to rockkkkkkk which would have been fantasticcccccccccccccccccccccccc

Ive heard that 4 people from Australian Idol now have music contracts - well done to them all.

Good luck to Kate. I hope she is a success. But you know what they say, the higher they go the harder they fall (or something like that anyway) Its a case of too much too soon. Only time will tell if she has it in her to succeed.

I guess between Emily and Kate, Kate was the better 'Australian' Idol. They needed a 'decent' female winner this time round and I think they got one. Kate will do better than last years Cassie for sure.

I hardly payed attention to this years aus idol until last week and this weeks final...

I wanted Emily to win... Kate was good but Emily has the better voice and what's the bet she will further her career over Kate.

It always happens those who become the runners up has more success than the winners - with the exception of Guy Sebastian coz he is doing very well...

i watched the first season of australian idol and i loveddddddddddddddd guy, good to see him still doing well, he had a great voice, could perform well and he was over all a good guy B)

after that i got over it cos midgets with too much self esteem came into the picture *cough cough anthony callea* and even though "the voice and not the look" won the competition (casey) we can defeinately see who became more popular and copped more publicity...

its clearly because too many people who can't think for themselves grab hold of their phones and vote away....

throughout the australian idol 2 series, judges did nothing but praise casey and say how talented and beautiful she was, now i'm not saying the girl didn't deserve it, she had a very good voice and was different from any other idol, which is of curse a good thing, because she stuck to her true colours...

BUT

as soon as the show finished....we were expecting the popularity that other idols get, such as guy sebastian, kelly clarkson etc etc

however, the judges who once praised casey and put her up on the pedalstool, a head above the rest were not there anymore to support her by feeding the audience with compliments towards casey....its like everyone forgot why they voted for her when they saw anthony callea's face on video hits singing "the prayer" without the judges voices in the backround.

should be interesting to see what happens with this years australian idol, i didn't watch the series so i do not know what happened with the judges etc, but good luck to her and the rest of the idols

emily is far better than kate, and especially since rnb is more popular than the usual pop malakies these days, she should have won... but she didnt perform as well as kate on sunday night...

honestly, the only person that deserved to win idol was guy sebastian - he was pretty consistent throughout the competition, and he's done pretty well for himself, seeing as hes worked with people in the U.S, including brian mcknight & alan thicke...

lol@ dj saying he'd never play an idol tune... the only time ive ever heard an idol tune being played in a club was @ penrith panthers - the 1st final 12's song "rise up" - OF ALL SONGS! lol
