The Khmer Empire was basically a empire in south eastern asia in modern day Cambodia. Angkor was the capital of the Khmer Empire. With the main religions being Hinduism and Buddhism.

Under Suryavarman II Cambodia's most famous Icon, the Angkor Wat temple was built. It took a total of 37 years to build the temples. It was dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu.

This was the greatest extent of the Empire. IPB Image

under Emperor Jayavarman VII (1181-1219) the new capital city of the Khmer Empire was moved and built. It was called Angkor Thom which means Great City. He was a Buddhist and not a Hindu.
