For those who have been to Greece do you think that food tastes better?

I think it does. Especially the fresh bread in the village. I'm not a big bread eater but when i'm in Greece I enjoy it.

I love the souvlaki both chicken and pork. I find that the pork doesnt smell in Greece. I love how they put chips in the souvlaki.

OK WELL...

greece has the BEST dairy products FULL STOP, i miss them dearly sad.gif
ice cream, milk, butter, yoghurt, cheese (esp fetta) it was all 100 times better in Greece

sennitsa i agree the bread is TO DIE FOR, i loved it how you went to a teverna and the first thing they would bring you was a freezing cold jug of water and a basket of home made bread, and it was yellow and hot and so soft.....mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

pites were the best with the chips in them, HOWEVER

i could ONLY eat pork in greece, no other meat, all the other meat was really bad and smelled to me, i don't know why, but it did, but them pork souvlakia rocked smile.gif

i became semi-vegitarian lol

i remember once, my uncle owns a farm, and he invited us over for a trapezi and he had sfazxied an arnaki that day for us to eat, and we were at the table and u could smell....farm....and i all i could think were the happy little arnakia that were running around the previous day lol

glykoula stuck the the salad that night

yes that meat is fresh, but if it smells like that its very hard to eat it and enjoy it, call me fussy but i think that is wrong.

im not a big sweets person, but i loved bougatsa in greece, my yiayia would go and buy me some fresh from the bakery mmmm

and also the kouloures, oh and when u were walking by the paralia at night, ppl would have a little bbq lit and be selling hot kalamboki smile.gif

Now you guys made me hungry. I can almost smell the rigani in the air. Its so true though how food tastes better in Greece.
Its not only the food. I could have the same beer in Australia as in Greece eg:Heiniken but it tastes better in Greece. What about Frappe? I have yet to have one that tastes like in Greece. It must be the water.

Sorry i made you hungry. It is true about the frappe though. It's the water. The closest frappe ive had to Greece is Medallion in Lonsdale Street.

I'm not a beer drinker but the Heineiken in Greece is beautiful.

i love it when ur walking down the street and you see the little pappoudes with the kastana on the little grill they were good too.
JIMMYJUMP
You cant compare the food in Greece to here, I dont know what the reason is, but imsure it has to do with the fact the climate and soil is different, and the fact fruit/vegies are not refrigerated for months on end like here.

You bite into a nectarine there, and the zoumia run down your chin, yet here, they are hard and tasteless like a piece of cardboard.

One thing ill say is, you cant beat the guys who sell the kastana and kalaboki in winter in the streets of Athens, and the souvlakia at the RIO~ANDERIO crossing(when the bridge wasnt around)
glykoula
JIMAKOOOOOOOOOO THATS WHERE I'M FROM

nafpaktos where you can sit and drink ur frappe or ur "prasini" looking at that bridge, well i went when the bridge wasn't there but i'd look out onto the lights of patra, but i've seen photos and its beautiful smile.gif

many a times we crossed with that ferry, and you had all the guys with their koulourakia, when we first arrived my mum nearly started crying lol, not really but she was like axxx i remember this i missed it tongue.gif

nothing like eating a souvlaki, and hearing in the backround, "ela ela me to kolo elaaaa, ama akousis boom stamataaaaaa!"

I love the food in greece, especially in the xorio. the food is cleaner. and much more better quality. when i was in the xorio almost everything i ate was freshly grown or some how made..i even had fresh (like 10 sec old goats milk and it was HOT) LOL ... i guess i liked it cause it was a new experience, not something i do here.

the pizza in greece is much more tastier, the 'dough' they use , theres something about it ... give it good taste

i agree with you the bread tastes great also.

and the chips in the souvlaki that rips it!! the souvlaki in greece just has better taste also...

by the way... has anyone been or seen that loukoumathes shop in athens... it only sells loukoumathes and its always packed... it sorta looks like the maccass on george st in the city...

it costs about 12 EURO (around $20 aust dollars) for loukoumathes, but i tell ya its worth every dollar!! smile.gif

tastes great biggrin.gif
