Newcastle United sack Graeme Souness

Newcastle United have sacked manager Graeme Souness, following Wednesday's 3-0 defeat by Manchester City in the Premiership.

Souness' position was already in danger after last week's loss to Blackburn Rovers, and the disappointing result at Manchester City appears to have been the final straw for the club board.

Since Souness' took over as coach at the Magpies, in September 2004, the team only won 16 of their 56 matches. In the English league, Newcastle are now in 15th position, only six points away from the relegation zone.

Youth coach Glenn Roeder will temporarily take the reigns, assisted by captain Alan Shearer. Main candidate for the job is said to be Bolton Wanderers manager Sam Allardyce.

about time i say... its been a long time coming hopefully their new manager will help newcastle united lift up abit.. i member the days wen i was proud to wear my newcastle united jersey bcos they played beautiful football, and then after that episode were the players fought with eachother on field i lost all respect that i had left for Newcastle united.... hopefully they can make a good little comeback bcos they arent a bad team just need some guidance..

A club of that size and it's an absolute bourdelo. Have little sympathy for them cos of their team of the mid 90s, used to give Man United a lot of grief, however United always came out on top. (ooo aaaa Cantona!!)

Newcastle however have the capacity to make it big, but always shoot themselves in the foot. Sam Allardyce would be an interesting choice. He's done well with Bolton over the years.

i dont think giannakopoulos will follow.. if he leaves bolton i dont think it will be for newcastle united if he goes up on the selling market he will be bought by a big name team as he is become a big name star in the EPL.. i wouldnt want to see his talent wasted at Newcastle, but then again under new guidance newcastle might suprise us... i want good old Stelzzz to go to Man Utd!!!! i pray at night for it
