PIREAS : Full name Olympiakos Syndesmos Filathlon Pirea. Formed 10-3-1925. Piraikos Podosferikos Omilos (P.P.O) and Omilos Filathlon Pirea joined and formed = Olympiakos S.F.P. History OLYMPIAKOS S.F.P. was founded on March 10, 1925, when the members of the "Piraeus Football Club" and the "Piraeus Fan Club" decided, during a historical assembly, to dissolve the two clubs in order to establish a new unified one. Notis Kamberos announced the name "OLYMPIAKOS" and Michalis Manouskos completed it to its full name, "OLYMPIAKOS FAN CLUB OF PIRAEUS". Ο Νότης Καμπέρος ανακοίνωσε το όνομα «ΟΛΥΜΠΙΑΚΟΣ» και ο Μιχάλης Μανούσκος το ολοκλήρωσε σε «ΟΛΥΜΠΙΑΚΟΣ ΣΥΝΔΕΣΜΟΣ ΦΙΛΑΘΛΩΝ ΠΕΙΡΑΙΩΣ» The players of the newly founded Olympiakos were excellent. The Andrianopoulos brothers, however, were those who significantly raised the reputation of the club and added glory to it. Children of a prosperous family, they made the name of Olympiakos known all over Greece. Yiannis, Dinos, Yorgos, and Vassilis were the first to play. Leonidas made his appearance later on, while Stelios played for a short time. The club's offensive line, made up of the five brothers, soon became legendary and, hence, Olympiakos is also known as Thrilos (Legend). The team's emblem is a laurel-wreath-crowned-teenager. ![]() With over 400 officially recognized titles, Olympiakos SFP is one of the biggest multisport clubs in Europe. Olympiakos' departments include Football, Basketball, Volleyball, Waterpolo and Athletics and the club is a leading force in all of them. Olympiakos is the only Greek sports club to have done the Treble (that is Greek Championship, Greek Cup and European Championship in the same year) in two different sports. Olympiakos is the most popular club in Greece. Olympiakos won the Greek Championship for the first time in the 1930-31 period and has since become the most decorated Greek team winning the Greek Championship 33 times out of a total of 69. Indeed they have more championships to their name than arch-rivals AEK Athens FC and Panathinaikos FC put together. 80 ΧΡΟΝΙΑ 33 ΠΡΩΤΑΘΛΗΜΑΤΑ 21 ΚΥΠΕΛΛΑ 11 DOUBLES This post has been edited by greekprince: Mar 4 2006, 10:49 AM -------------------- ............

In the mid 80s Olympiakos came into the hands of Greek Businessman George Koskotas. Soon Koskotas was accused of and convicted for embezzlement, leaving Olympiakos deep in debt. On the pitch, the team without a serious management team went nine seasons without a league title (1986/87 to 1996/97. The situation improved after Sokratis Kokkalis took over Olympiakos's shares in 1993. Having agreed to a settlement of the club's debts with the Greek government, Kokkalis slowly resurrected the team. In 1996 Kokkalis appointed Dusan Bajevic which was already out of contract with AEK following a class with the management team regarding financial issues and uncertainty. The same season Kokkalis transferred to the reds all the Greek young talents he could find, such as Predrag Djorgevic, Grigoris Georgatos, Stelios Giannakopoulos, Giorgos Anatolakis, Dimitris Mavrogenidis etc - Most of whom are still members of Olympiakos today. Since then Olympiakos won seven consecutive Championships, even after Bajevic left in 1999. In the 2003/04 season, Olympiakos finished second. Last season (2004/05) Olympiakos appointed again Dusan Bajevic and transferred World Champion Rivaldo. The end of the season found Olympiakos with both domestic trophies (Championship and the Greek Cup) but without their manager Dusan Bajevic, as he resigned. Therefore Olympiakos appointed Trond Sollied. As of January 2006 .. Olympiakos is first in the Greek league standings by 3 points. Their arch-rival Panathinaikos is 12 back after a 3-2 loss to Olympiakos at the home of the Greek leaders. 8/2/1981 The history of Olympiakos is unfortunately marked by the worst tragedy ever to hit Greek sports and football in particular. It happened on the 8th of February 1981, right after the end of the derby between Olympiakos CFP and AEK Athens FC. The match ended in an unprecedented triumph for the Piraeus team: 6 goals to 0. The final whistle saw thousands of fans rushing to the exits, trying to get to the stadium's main entrance and celebrate with the players. The stairs of Gate 7 became a death trap. The doors were almost closed and the turnstiles still in place, making exit almost impossible. People continued to come down from the stands, not being able to see what happened below because of the stair's shape. The fatal accident left tens of fans seriously injured and 21 young people dead, most by suffocation. DERBIES - ENEMIES
For Olympiakos the most important match of the season is the match against 'eternal enemy' Panathinaikos. Other big matches are played against AEK and PAOK. 'Olympiakos - Panathinaikos' - This is the derby between the 'eternal enemies' of Greek football (and other sports) and the most classic match of the capital. In the past Olympiakos Piraeus used to represent the working class while Panathinaikos respresented the upper class of Athens. Now the situation has changed. The fanbases of both the clubs are almost similar and they are supported by strong economical and political groups. A review of the last Derby between Olympiakos - Panathinaikos from www.footballderbies.com Olympiakos Piraeus - Panathinaikos (3-2) League, 15 January 2006 Stadium : Karaiskakis Attendance : 31480 The biggest derby in Greece was played at the Olympiakos stadium in Piraeus on Sunday 15th january & in terms of drama , intensity & passion it did not disappoint. On the Sunday after spending the morning at the Piraeus and Athens flea markets (crowded) I watched Ionikos vs Levadiakos in the afternoon (their ground is in the Nikea area of Piraeus, on Gr. Lambraki street, either bus or taxi from downtown) before a small attendance of under 1000. A fairly low key aperitif before the main course. I arrived nearly two hours before the 7pm kick off and the Olympiakos Karaiskakis stadium and surrounding area was already noisy and crowded. But only with home fans as no opposition fans (with the exception of three Panathinaikos directors ?) were allowed into the stadium. ![]() For me the lack of away fans does detract from the overall derby game experience, however it is clear that the intensity of the animosity generated between the supporters has inevitably meant home fans only is the way it will be for the forseeable future. So over 30,000 passionate greeks dressed in red is how it was. And the most intense are those representing Gate 7 - the ultras of Olympiakos. Imagine being a Panathinaikos player warming up some few yards in front of these guys , as they did , to prove they are not afraid. But not too close in order to avoid the missiles being thrown. As the players appear for the kick-off the taunts to the Panathinaikos players are 'pastmasters' , 'has-beens' and rabbits (because they run) the noise is deafening and the flares copious. It takes maybe 4/5 minutes before the smoke clears and the game can start. ![]() You could contrast the occasion as between extreme noise and mayhem whenever Olympiakos went close or scored (as they did three times) versus total silence when Panathinaikos scored (twice). Neither defence looked that secure & the difference really was the two well taken goals by Rivaldo who can still strut his stuff , although a little more slowly than in the past. ![]() I assume Olympiakos will be called to account for the missiles & flares thrown during the game - often Panathinaikos players were unable to take corners without being bombarded by dvd's or whatever (given as handouts to the fans) .When the away team were awarded a penalty (brave refereeing) flares were thrown onto the pitch and it would not be an exaggeration to say that they (mainly Gate 7) must have lit over 100 flares before and during the game. ![]() Overall an intense experience of a greek derby played out in a very atmospheric stadium where the Olympiakos ultras express their passion with large. For me definitely one of the more passionate world derbies although somewhat diminished by the lack of visiting fans.
