Ant, cyclones and magnifying glasses

I remember as a child how I played in the backyard,
(Before the computer came). I remember how I caressed
My magnifying glass and placed it over any creature that crawled
Past me— Lizards, ants, my younger brother. I remember as
I assassinated the queen ant, placing the magnifying glass
Over her big fat body. I smiled as she slowly turned into
Black, billowing smoke with the sun rays “Mwahhahahaa!”

Now, the CAT scan tube draws me in, magnifying each unique cell within
As my wife, who looks like an ant, waved at me.

The night before, I was washing the dishes. I observe how my house was
Slowly invaded by small, black ants. I usually scooped some water
And splashed it over them. I watch one of them struggle. I let it live;
For five seconds. And finished it off. In fact, it was five years to the day
Our house was attacked by a hurricane. It's a bit of the irony. We thought
We were spared like the ant, for five seconds. Then it attacked, out of no-where

—The CAT scan was over. And the radiologist informed me how I had
A tumour shaped like an ant was inside of me. He said it's small. And that
“We will eat it with this magnifying probe”. I nodded, still numb, and pale.
The operation was booked for Thursday.

That night I washed some more dishes and went to sleep. The next morning
The tumour burst. It released a million ants into my intestines. They had
Eaten me alive—by the time the morning sun pierced through the windows.
Yet like the remnants of the queen ant, who cursed me all these years,
On the remains of my bones, the ants had spelt something out with
Their faeces, something special, something with meaning next to my ribs:

“Ants, cyclones and magnifying glasses are allied. Do not disturb.”
