The reigning continental champions gave fans of the newest Euroleague club something to remember on Wednesday, by scoring as many points as any road team ever before in the competition. In their Group C game in Clermont Ferrand, France, mighty Panathinaikos defeated newcomer Chorale Roanne 83-123 to tie the single-game scoring mark by any Euroleague team all decade.

The Greens' scoring show matched that of Maccabi Elite Tel Aviv when it defeated Scavolini Pesaro 123-73 almost exactly three years ago, on November 25, 2004. As such, Panathinaikos now owns the record for most points scored by a visiting team. The Greens started out modestly enough, winning the first quarter by just 22-29. That was their lowest-scoring quarter, however. They outscored Roanne 17-35 in the second to lead 39-64 at halftime. They won the third quarter 22-30 and went over 100 points on a Nikos Hatzivrettas three-point shot with just under 8 minutes remaining. It was a race to the record from there, and Panathinaikos finished the final quarter with 29 points again, falling a single point shy of the absolute record.

Andrija Zizic made 10 of 10 two-point shots and had 26 points to lead six Greens total who scored in double digits. The Greens also dished 30 assists among them, the second-most ever in one game. Maccabi had 31 assists twice, in the 2004 title game and earlier the same season, while Pau-Orthez also had 30 back in the 2001-02 regular season.
