Hope this topic helps you. I did some research about this a few years ago.

Best point of call is to speak to someone at your greek embassy. Hopefully they will give you the right answer

Pat again you are not thinking rationally. Daniel insulting me is only one of the reasons why he needs to go. I explained it you before yet you think it's childish. He has had his chance to provide evidence as to why he is a macedonian and he has not provided any historical evidence.

As I stated before he has lasted longer than what Greeks do on skopjan forums.

Daniel

You obviously have too much time on your hands.

I stated the historical truth. You are either Greek or a slav you are not Macedonian. We have given you examples yet you refuse to accept it.

Yet you felt the need to call me an arvanite when I am an Ellinida. Do you have any proof that I am an arvanite? No you do not because I am an ellinada and I will keep saying it.

You went too far.

Pat

For such an intelligent person you say some stupid things sometimes. I am not a queen but I own 50% of this site. I don't insult people or swear at them and I expect the same courtesy back.

He insulted me and I want him banned. End of the day I can do what I want on here as long as JJ agrees with me and vice versa.

Have you thought that maybe that is only one of the reasons why he should be banned. Most Greek forums are tolerant of skopiani coming on yet the skopianika forum ban Greeks.

He has had his say and enough is enough.

An ingenious example of speech and politics occurred recently in the United Nations Assembly and made the world community smile.

A representative from Greece began:
'Before beginning my talk I want to tell you something about Great Alexander.

When he successfully tamed Bucephalus, he crossed Axios river and when he saw the water, he thought, 'What a good opportunity to have a bath!'

He removed his clothes, put them aside on the rock and entered the water.

When he got out and wanted to dress, his clothes had vanished. A Slav of the Macedonia had stolen them.'

The FYROM representative jumped up furiously and shouted,

'What are you talking about? The Slavs weren't there then.'

The Greek representative smiled and said -'And now that we have made that clear, I will begin my speech'

I cracked up when I read this.

I want you out of here and I am an administrator of this site. However I will allow the members to decide as this is a democratic forum.

Oh please don't make me laugh. They keep supporting your bullshit cause. They recognised you and ignored the UN sanction that a suitable name be found.

You keep believing the fairy tale that you are Macedonian.

QUOTE (Daniel @ Oct 31 2008, 09:03 AM) *
Why, certainly Jimmy.

Ethnicity is, as vasilis said, you background. It is followed through from the parents.
Nationality is not as vasilis said, it is not where you are born, but where you are a citizen of.

This means my ethnicity is Macedonian, whilst my nationality is Australian

No this means that you're ethnicity is slavic not Macedonian. Macedonia is a geographic region of which most of it is in Greece.
It is not a country.

Why would it be a joke? You obviously havent looked hard enough.

I found the links but you can do the hard work and find it yourself. Yes the US Congress & Senate passed this resolution.

(1) urges the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) to observe its obligations under Article 7 of the 1995 United Nations-brokered Interim Accord, which directs the parties to `promptly take effective measures to prohibit hostile activities or propaganda by state-controlled agencies and to discourage acts by private entities likely to incite violence, hatred or hostility' and review the contents of textbooks, maps, and teaching aids to ensure that such tools are stating accurate information; and
(2) urges FYROM to work with Greece within the framework of the United Nations process to achieve longstanding United States and United Nations policy goals by reaching a mutually-acceptable official name for FYROM.

The US congress and Senate refer to it as FYROM.

When I went to Egypt I saw the sign as well. It is a toll point on the way to Alexandria from Cairo/Giza. Our Egyptian tour guide said it is written in Arabic and Greek only. Greek to respect the fact that Alexander was Greek.

I also saw the copy of the Rosetta Stone as well in Cairo and guess what? I could read it because it was in Greek.

I keep reading the same rubbish over and over from the fyromites. I am over it. I was in Greece when we vetoed, watch a lot of documentaries, saw a lot of reporting about the issue but the fact remains that you cannot accept the truth. I saw a doco of some fyrom students studying in Greece and all they cared about was getting into the EU so they could travel without visas and passports.

I have nothing further to say because I cannot reason with unreasonable people who do not have any historical fact that Ancient Macedonia was a country and not a state of Greece.

I agree that Patra is nice but honestly it is a headache. There are problems with parking. My husband and I got booked for parking in a zone which required a ticket. There were no signs nearby saying we needed to get a ticket. The fine was 20 euro which they reduced to 10 euro. I cracked it at the council because there should have been signs in English and Greek. Mind you my Greek is excellent but I didnt see any signs.

There is a lot of traffic in the main part of Patra which is annoying. I don't know what Nafpaktos is like but I am sure it would nicer than Patra.

SOUTHERN Cross has recruited commentator Les Murray and former tennis champion Paul McNamee in its bid for Melbourne's second A-League licence.

The face of SBS football, Murray presented the bid to Football Federation Australia on Monday.

He has been retained by the group as an adviser.

A former chief executive of the Australian Open, McNamee will advise on commercial matters.

"A bit further down the track, we'll be happy to release more information about the other people behind the bid, but we're delighted to have Les and Paul involved," spokesman Jim Mellas said yesterday.

The group, backed by Victorian Premier League club South Melbourne, took two hours to detail its five-year business plan. It is understood rival Melbourne Heart has already made its presentation. A decision will not be made until at least October

Well this is an interesting development. Southern Cross is backed by South Melbourne. Maybe the four times national champion will be back in the national competition in 2010.

Rivaldo has rocked AEK Athens by telling the club he is leaving to take up a lucrative contract with Uzbekistan outfit FC Bunyodkor.

The veteran Brazilian forward revealed he held talks with AEK chairman Demis Nikolaidis last week and informed him that he has been made an 'extremely tempting contract offer', which he intends to take up immediately.

Rivaldo, 36, confirmed the news in a radio interview with Greek sport station Novosport FM, commenting: 'It was a difficult decision to make but I have received an offer that is very good for the end of my career. I had a great time at AEK. I thank the president and the fans but the offer is very good for me and my family.

'It is a very good proposal and I cannot turn it down. I would like to ask for a million apologies because there is so little time in the transfer window for the club to replace me but it was an exceptional proposal.'

The Asian club, previously known as PFC Kurivchi, finished runners-up in the Uzbek league last season and have tried to match it's growing success on the field with big name signings.

Earlier this summer, Bunyodkor sensationally claimed to have signed Samuel Eto'o but what would have been one of the most surprising transfers of all time was never confirmed and the Cameroon striker remains at Barcelona.

The news of Rivaldo's departure comes just three days after Nikolaidis announced he would be stepping down at the end of this season.

The former AEK striker headed a consortium that took over the Athens club in 2004 but cited the lack of support from fans as one of the reason that he would not continue in his role. Rivaldo said his decision was not connected to Nikolaidis's departure.

AEK play Cypriot side Omonia Nicosia in the UEFA Cup on Thursday, with the Yellows looking to overturn a 1-0 defeat from the first leg

The Metro system had to be built to assist the people in Athens. Yes I know about the budget blow out.

Again which stadiums are not being used and have graffiti on them?

The basketball stadium at the olympic complex is being used I forgot to mention that before. We went to a CL game in March. SEF (which was renovated for the Olympics) is used by Olympiakos for their basketball games. Karaiskaki was rebuilt and is being used by Olympiakos and the national team for football games. Pankration in Crete is being used for football games.

As for grafitti there is no grafitti on the karaiskaki stadium. Nearby there is, mostly against PAO and AEK.

Since you brought up this topic please answer the question about the stadiums.

Gundapi what is your point? You put up an article with no backing information. Which venues are locked up and not used? Which venues have grafitti on them? I know that Elliniko stadium which is next to the old airport is used for basketball. My husband went to a game in March when we were there on our honeymoon. Be more specific, don't post up one article which means nothing.

As for the cost yes it was costly but infrastructure was created which is currently being used. By this I mean the metro train system which is still being expanded, the tram and of course the attiki odos.

You like being critical yet did you even go to the olympics in 2004? I did and guess what? The locals wanted the olympic games.

I watched the Beijing Olympic opening ceremony on Friday night. At first I thought it was wonderful, so synchronised so technical. Then I saw the military walk in carrying the Chinese Flag and the National anthem was sung. I thought it odd as this is usually done after the president opens the games. I lost interest in it and by the time the flame was lit I was over it.

Today it was revealed that the little girl who was singing was actually miming to a recording sung by another girl. It turns out that this other girl was dumped because she wasn't as pretty and had uneven teeth.

It was also revealed that the dazzling chain of massive fireworks that traced Route One north from Tiananmen Square to the main Olympic zone during the opening ceremony, amazing television viewers and the audience in the Bird's Nest stadium, was mostly computer-generated.
"It was the image of our national music, our national culture. And especially since it accompanied the arrival of the national flag in the arena, this was an extremely serious matter," he said.

I feel for the poor little girl. What does something like this do to her self esteem?

I look back to Athens and the opening ceremony which was the most amazing ceremony I have ever seen. You cannot compare the two. The Beijing ceremony was all about China and not the Olympics.

What is next, will something else come to light during these games?

I do not believe that China given it's human rights record should have been awarded the olympic games. Yet another mistake by the IOC which was headed by Juan Antonio Samaranch at the time.

QUOTE (JIMMYJUMP @ Jul 3 2008, 02:09 PM) *
TIRANA, July 2 (Xinhua) -- French President Nicolas Sarkozy has urged FYROM to redouble its efforts in finding a solution to its name dispute with Greece, news reaching here from Skopje reported on Wednesday.

"I call on you, as I called on the Greek authorities on my visit to Athens in June, to redouble the efforts in finishing the negotiations over the name issue," Sarkozy said in a letter to his Macedonian counterpart Branko Crvenkovski.

Greece opposes its northern neighbor being called Macedonia, arguing it implies a territorial claim over a Greek northern province of the same name.

The issue has been dogging the two neighbors for the past 17 years, and prompted Greece to veto Macedonia's NATO bid in April.

"It is necessary for this issue to stop being an obstacle for the legitimate aspirations of your people for European Union and NATO accession," Sarkozy said.

Sarkozy said that France will continue to support Macedonia on its road to join the EU. France took over the six-month rotating presidency of the EU from Slovenia on July 1.

Who knows why the French are on Greece's side in this matter. I was in Greece when the veto happened. I along with many Greeks was happy that this happened. I watched the Greek news and many documentaries while I was there. The skopiani are stubborn but if they want their country to join europe then they must come to the party and negotiate with Greece on this matter.

I remember watching a doco a couple days after the veto. The greek news reporter asked a skopiano reporter this question.

"Are you aware that since Greece has vetoed your countries entry into NATO then it will not be possible for you to join the European Union"

Well the skopiano reporter side tracked the issue and started going on about how some countries have recognised them as the republic of Macedonia, however he failed to answer the reporters initial question.

My opinion is that it will be solved and I hope that the Greek Government does not give in to any name which may lead to territorial claim on any Greek Land.

Guys I am going to ask that you stick to the topic and not bring in issues which cause arguments. I am very busy and I dont have much time to check each post so I am trusting that you guys do the right thing please.

Please Kat it is impossible to educate people to understand that it the increase in petrol prices etc is not the government's fault. Epicurus get your facts straight it was Howard who said interest rates wouldnt go up but they did.

Furthermore if people are stupid enough to over comit on their mortgages by not having enough deposit or a decent budget then that is their problem. I am over these people carrying on. They have car loans, furniture loans, tv loans etc. Why should I have sympathy for them if they cannot manage their finances. Stay home and save money but no these people have to have the latest in everything yet they complain about the mortgage being hight. Besides everyone knows that should never borrow more than 80% of the value of the asset and that the repayment should not be more than 30% of your take home income. I forgot the banks break their own rules now.

Further to my point why is it the Rudd's fault if the world oil price has gone up?
